Huge flashes of red and orange bring this petrified wood to life. It is said that these colours come from trees that would have been ancestors to rose wood. Rose wood is very common in Madagascar which is where this petrified wood has been sourced to ensure fair trading and the best quality.
How has wood turned to stone?
Trees from 20 to 200 million years ago that have naturally preserved themselves through a process called mineralization. This means that instead of decomposing they have turned to solid petrified/fossilized wood stone. A truly incredible process of the earth that gives us a glimpse and treasure of the past. Each piece of petrified wood has its own unique detail, colour composition and patterns based on the minerals that surrounded it and the rings in the tree.
